Want to Know How Fire Sprinklers Work?
Though there are many different types of fire suppression systems out there, the end goal for each is the same: protect your property and the people on it from fires. That said, it pays to understand how each type of fire suppression system accomplishes this feat. Let’s take a look at how fire suppression systems (fire sprinklers) work.
The first thing you need to know is that fire sprinklers will be hooked up to your water system. When the need for fire suppression arises, the sprinklers will pull water and disperse it over the areas being affected by fire.
It’s important to note that just because one sprinkler head is activated, not all of the sprinkler heads will be activated. This design ensures that the area affected most by the fire gets the majority of fire suppression.
In terms of how a fire sprinkler head is activated, it’s important to note that each sprinkler head holds water back by way of a sealed valve. The valve is held shut by a small glass bulb that’s filled with liquid. This liquid expands when heated. So in the event of a fire when there’s lots of heat, the liquid will expand, breaking the glass around it and allowing water to flow freely through the sprinkler head.
