Tips for Installing Outdoor Industrial Lights
Setting up outdoor industrial lights brightens big open spaces, whether it’s your backyard or a workshop area. Here are some tips to do it right.
One mistake people make is not having a flat area to put the light fixtures on. To fix that, use a mounting block to create a flat surface for the light to sit on.
Another mistake is forgetting to use a junction box. That’s a box that, by law, must be there to hold the electrical wires together. Also, avoid using wire nuts for outside light fixtures. Instead, use lever nuts. They’re easier to use and make a stronger connection. On top of that, it’s critical to know how to replace an old light fixture. Here’s how to do it.
Shut off the power to the light fixture on the breaker box. Then double-check to ensure there’s no power to the wires before you take the old light fixture down with a voltage tester. Take down the old light fixture and the mounting bracket it’s on. If there isn’t a pancake junction box, you’ll need to install one.
You’ll have to cut a hole in the mounting block to put the pancake junction box in. Connect the wires from the new light fixture to the ones coming out of the junction box using lever nuts. Put the new light fixture up on the junction box and mount it. Turn the power back on in the breaker box and see if your new light fixture works.
With these tips, you’ll be able to create the well-lit outdoor space of your dreams. If you’re not confident you can set up lighting safely, don’t hesitate to ask professionals to help you.
